Gospel
pioneer Kirk Franklin detailed his views on marriage from a child up
until now in a new blog as he celebrated 19 years married. He said he
wants young men to look at him and his wife as an example and yell out
"get a room."
Franklin
explained how he first met his wife Tammy and how he immediately asked
her to marry him. "I had no idea of the huge weight of seriousness in
that request; no one does at the time," he wrote, "but I can tell you,
the man, the music, and my ministry would be dead on arrival if I would
have never asked the girl of my dreams to marry me."
The popular
artist recalled his childhood and how he never had a good example of a
man or loving husband in his life except for what he witnessed on
television in 'The Cosby Show'. "I remember the faces of married men in
restaurants. They always looked bored, like they wanted to cut their
wrist under the table," he illustrated in the post, "It just looked
lifeless to me as a young man."
He said
after many years of carousing with different women looking for something
deeper he found his bride. "I love being married to her," he declared.
He explained that his wife's upbringing was very different then his,
"She saw love modeled. I didn't," he said.
Franklin
advised married women to encourage their husbands because he said his
wife's affirmation is the key factor in why he is the man he is today.
Years ago Franklin admitted publicly that for years he struggled with pornography and his wife's support helped through it. "She didn't give
up on me. She knew I was crazy, and she was my medication," he stated.
The "Imagine
Me" composer concluded by saying, "I want to be married forever. I
never want to embarrass my wife by ever cheating and breaking her trust.
Embarrassing the Lord, my children, or ever be in a restaurant across
from another young man thinking about marriage and see an unloving
couple."
Franklin
maintained that he wants to be seen by younger man out with his wife
kissing and snuggling "until that future single Young Kirk considering
marriage yells out:
"Get a room!"
